Why Sit We Here Till We Die?
II Kings 7:3.Why sit we here until we die?
You have to admire these men for their attitude. The man in the verse above has a word from God spoken by a proven prophet of God, but his attitude is unbelief.
You know, I don't think that these 4 leperous men even heard the prophecy, because they were outside the gates of the city. Whether they did or not, they made a determination to do something besides just sit and wait for the end.
Too many Christians today are just putting in their time somewhere. They're stuck in some dead or dried up form of religion or church starving to death spiritually. They are just there because grandma went there, or worse yet because they have put a lot of money into the building.
The man in verse 2 scoffed at the man of God and made light of the promise of God. He said, "If the Lord made windows in heaven might this thing be."
There is a price for not believing God's Word and for making light of his prophets.
This man would see the blessing, but never taste it. His attitude is, "I'll believe when I see it." The outcome of that attitude was that when he saw it he believed it, but he never received.
Faith believes it when God says it.
Let's look at verses 5,6, & 7. This Syrian army was not defeated by soldiers and chariots or by a destroying angel. They were not conquered by some great army. They were defeated by what they heard.People are defeated every day by what they hear. Hearing can defeat you or save you depending on what you listen to.
Ezekiel told the dry bones if they would live again they must hear the Word of the Lord. Dead dry bones were turned into a mighty army by hearing the Word of the Lord.
The Syrian army was defeated by what they heard.
If you are not listening or hearing what God says you will be defeated by what the world says.Faith comes by hearing not by having heard.
If you take vitamins, you must take them every day.
There are people that couldn't tell you the last time they sat down and read their Bible. Their prayer life is almost non-existant. It is mostly, "Now I lay me down to rest and Lord bless this food. They take no part in the church except to sit home and critisise those that are trying.but they can tell you the names of all the newest perscription drugs on the market and who the best surgeons in the area are. Then they say, "That faith stuff doesn't work", but when disaster strikes, they want the magic man. They want someone who has been praying and fasting and renewing their mind to the Word of God.
That is dangerous ground my friend.
The man in verse 2 saw the blessing, but never tasted it.
The children of Israel that were always moaning and complaining saw the promised land, but never got to enter.

4 leperous men that were willing to get up and try brought the news of deliverance to all Samaria.
4 lepers that decided to move opened the way for many others. These men not only saved their own lives, but also the lives of others., because they didn't just sit down and quit. They were not consumed by the hopelessness of those around them.
Alot of pastors and a lot of Christians today have thrown up their hands and said " I quit , I give up , people's hearts are too hard and you just can't have church like you used to ", and the devil is dancing a jig.I'll tell you what, when our want to gets big enough we will have church like we used to. God isn't pulling back on the reins.
We read in the Bible in Mark 5:25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, Mr 5:26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
Mr 5:27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
Mr 5:28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
Mr 5:29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
This lady in the Bible that had an issue of blood for 12 years didn't give up. She got up, she pressed, she had a want to. Why sit we here until we die?
When these three men in our text moved, when they got up, God did the rest .
The prodigal son in the 15th chapter of Luke couldn't sit on the fence and watch the hogs any longer. He had to get up and return to the Father's house.
Naaman had to go and dip in Jordan 7 times.
Now, you may be saying, "Dave, what about those that can't make it to church that are bedfast, etc.?"
There is a vast difference between can't and won't.
I have known some people that say they just can't sit in church an hour or 2, but I see them walking at the mall for hours.
There are some who say that healing doesn't work for them or blame God.
Friends, let's get up. "Why sit we here till we die?" We may have time to reach a son or a daughter; maybe a friend or a neighbor. We might bring the Good News and the food to the starving.
Let me close with this scripture:
Judges 5:23.
Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty. Meroz was cursed bitterly by the Angel of the Lord for doing nothing to help God's armies fight
the enemy.
Let's not be like these people.
Let's get up, armour up, and get on the battlefield for the Lord.

                 WE HERE
                            WE DIE?
