The Power of God unto salvation

The scripture I want to talk about is in Romans
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Before I get into what I want to talk about, I want us to do a little studying first.
I want us to look at 2 words in that scripture above. The words“Power” and “Salvation
Both of these words are translated from 2 different Greek words.
Here are the 2 words and their meanings.

Lets look at the word “power” first
Strong’s Greek Number 1411 = Dunamis (doo-nam-is).
Its definition…
force, miraculous power, a miracle itself, ability, abundance, meaning mighty, strength, violence, mighty wonderful work.

Some others that I have read besides Strong’s.
1. strength power, ability
    a. inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth power for performing miracles(You can not put forth this power in your own strength or ability it is through the anointing of the Holy Spirit)
The Wikipedia online encyclopedia describes Dunamis this way…
It says dunamis “is the root of modern English words "dynamic", "dynamite", and "dynamo”.
Dunamis is the word; where the English word dynamite comes from. We most commonly hear this word (dunamis) talked about as dynamite power, and that would be a correct translation of that word.

Now lets look at the second word, which was the word “salvation”.
Strong’s Greek Number 4991 Soteria (so-tay-ree-ah)
its defination…

Now lets look at this scripture again. If I was to add in the translations from both words I can make this scripture read this way and do it no harm. What is in black is mine. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the (dynamite, miraculous, mighty in strength and wonderful works) power of God (for the performing of miracles). unto salvation (for the saving of our souls, for a rescue in times of need, for our health, and to save and deliver us from the powers of darkness and the works of the enemy), to every one that believeth;

I want to talk about the Power of God today.
Sometimes I think (myself included) if we could get our minds wrapped around the real power of our God and the love he has toward us, we’d fear a lot less than we do. We are quick to look at the size of our problem instead of the power, might and love of our God. Sometimes we just need to remind ourselves that we serve a powerful, supernatural, miracle working God. Who is not lacking in power and might.

I want to tell you something, the believer that only believes salvation is for the soul has to wait till he gets to heaven for life to really be good; but the believer that believes salvation brings deliverance from the realm of sin and death, from the powers of darkness will bring the kingdom of heaven into his life right now.
We don’t have to wait till we get to heaven for life to be good, for us to be prosperous, or to have good health. We can bring the kingdom of heaven right on into our life today. In fact that is what we are supposed to be doing, and not just in our life but in the lives of others as well. We are supposed to have a rivers of living water flowing from us.
John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
I want you to notice something it doesn’t say” river” it says “rivers”. These rivers of living water pouring out of us should reach a lost and dying world and those in trouble and in need. They should be coming to drink from the waters flowing out of us.

So where is the power of God?
I am going to tell you, that you can’t have something flowing out of you unless first it is flowing in you.
Lets look at what Gideon said
Judges 6:13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of...
This says to me that where the Lord is, His power is.
John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
What flows in the vine will flow in the branches.
Lets think a moment on what was flowing out of Jesus when he walked the earth. Jesus taught men salvation, a big part of Jesus ministry was also healing, he delivered those bound up and he set the captives free.

There are a lot of hurting and needy people in the land today and we aught to be preaching the kingdom of God and setting the captives free. That is what Jesus did, he set the captive free and that is what those who followed him did.
Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

We do not do this in our own ability or in our own power but by the power that has been sent to live and dwell in us. Remember we just read in John 15:5 for without me ye can do nothing.
Zechariah 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
If we want to be a part of setting the captives free then, we need recognize and follow the leading of the Spirit in our lives. Because the power comes through the Spirit that dwells in us and through Gods Word.

Romans 8:11 says the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you and I. If the Holy Spirit is dwelling in you, then you know it didn’t come powerless. Think about that, the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead. That is resurrection power dwelling inside of the born again believer.
I don’t know about you but I want to see that power of God operative in my life, I want to see the power of conviction bring sinners to repentance.  I want to see those held in bondage and held captive set free.

So how do you get this power?
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
The word power in this scripture was translated from the same Greek word that was used in the opening scripture. Dunamis. You will notice it says that AFTER the Holy Ghost came upon them that power came.
If you have received the Holy Ghost then this Dynamite Dunimas power is resting upon you through the Holy Spirit.

So what is the Power of God doing in your life. I am asking you this because…
1 John 4:4 says… Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. There are 2 opposing forces in the land at work today, the one that is dwelling in you (if you are born again) and the one that dwells in the world.
2 Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
The Spirit in you has the ability to pull down strong holds.
Are you using those weapons to pull down any strong hold in you life and the lives of those around you?
Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
If we’re not careful we can make a train wreck of this scripture by thinking he sent us out amongst the wolves to be wounded and devoured. He may have sent us out as sheep amongst the wolves, but I want to tell you something, he didn’t send us out unequipped so we could be defeated. He fully equipped us with what we need to meat the wolves. He sends us out in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit and with his Word.
He didn’t send us out without the power. His Spirit and His Word are Powerful.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick(meaning alive), and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
We have been commissioned and empowered by God to pull down strong holds. That is a mighty and powerful anointing.

You don’t have to be a preacher to send out the Gospel of Christ, to share the good news. If someone needs to hear of a savior, tell them of a savior, if they need to hear of a healer, tell them of a healer, if they need to hear of a deliverer tell them of the one who bled and died to set the captive free. Look at how the
book of Isaiah describes his death.
Isaiah 52:14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. (4)Surely he hath borne our griefs (meaning sickness and diseases), and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. (5)But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (6)All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Grief comes from another translated word (Strongs Hebrew #2483)it means sickness and disease. Healing is included in the redemptive work of Christ.  He went through great lengths to pull down the strong hold that Satan had on mankind.
Then he turned the work over to us.
Jesus sent out his disciples telling them to
John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; (18)They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

After this look what takes place,
Mark 16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
He sat down on the right hand of God.
look what takes place next... now the signs follow the believer,
Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. he worked with them who were continuing in his work.
Jesus spoke in Mark 16:17 and in verse 20 that signs and wonders will follow his word. He did not just send this commission out for the 12, he sent it out to the believer. He said he that believeth on me shall do these things. This is the believers portion.
John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
Many wonderful works and miracles were still happening after the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. He is still moving in this great dunamis power and might, through the Holy Spirit today.

The believer is made (through the Spirit) to be equipped to do great things,
Daniel 11:32 says the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.
It is by the Spirit dwelling in us, through us and through the use of his name, that this power becomes operative

Jesus was given a name above all names,
Philippians 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
And all authority was given unto that name in the 3 worlds.
Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; (11) And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

There was no other name given among men, where by we must be saved than by the name of Jesus.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
The name of Jesus brings deliverance.
There is power invested in his Word and in the use of his Name.
We have the power of the Holy Spirit living and dwelling in us and we have been given the authority to use the family name, the name of Jesus.
Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

We are to trample the devil and his kingdom under our feet.
Psalm 91:13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

We are to be a powerful people; (I showed you a part of this scripture earlier)
Daniel 11:32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
The rock that the house was built on was Jesus.
We are his Church and the gates of hell are not to be prevailing against us

Haggai 2:9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.
The former house was not lacking in power, the latter house not only has power but it also has peace.

2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
The Lord is looking for a place to show himself strong and powerful.
Do you have the Holy Spirit dwelling in you today?

Jesus said the comforter couldn’t come unless he be lifted up meaning raised from the dead
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Mark 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

After the resurrection he said this…
Luke 24:39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Jesus was raised from the dead.
No other religion can offer a risen savior, the stone was rolled away and the grave was empty.
He sent the Holy Spirit to man, and the dwelling place of that Spirit is inside of you and me.
If you don’t know Jesus, If you dont have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside, I want to encourage you to call upon the Lord today. You don’t have to wait till everything in your life is perfect and fixed before coming to the Lord. Call upon him today and he will give you the power and strength to overcome what has you bound.

God Bless
