Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Ro 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Are we instruments that God can use or are we ornaments just sitting on a church pew waiting for Jesus to return?
The only ornament we are to be is the ornament of a meek & quiet spirit (1 Peter 3:4).
I don't know about you but I have many ornaments (knick-knacks) sitting around my house. Most of the time they just collect dust. They are keepsakes: something I treasure, but really has no purpose, but to look pretty.
I don't want to just be an ornament: someone God loves, but is not doing what He has called me to do. I don't just want to look like a Christian. I want to act like one too. I want to be an instrument God can use for His glory.
When His mother came looking for Him, Jesus said in Luke 2:49, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
That is exactly what we should be doing. There are many today who are called to a work, but are not fulfilling that call. They put it off for one reason or another. We will give account for our callings & gifts. Oh, we will probably make it to heaven, but we could be living a more victorious life now, if we would simply OBEY God and do what He has called us to do.
God will not change His mind about the calling He has put on someone's life. They will either walk in that calling or they will not, but God will not revoke that calling or gift. If we want it to lie dormant we have that choice.
Romans 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
Gifts: Strong's Concordance # 5486: grace or gifts denoting extraordinary powers, distinguishing certain Christians and enabling them to serve the church of Christ, the reception of which is due to the power of divine grace operating on their souls by the
Calling: Strong's Concordance # 2821: of the divine invitation to embrace salvation of God.
Without repentance: Strong's Concordance #278: not repentant of, unregretted.
Amplified Bible: Romans 11:29 For God's gifts and His call are irrevocable. [He never withdraws them when once they are given, and He does not change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call.]
1 Corinthians 7:20 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.
1co 7:21 Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.
1co 7:22 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is
1co 7:23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
1co 7:24 Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
2 Peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure.
Election: Strong's # 1589: 1. the act of picking out, choosing a. of the act of God's free will by which before the foundation of the world he decreed his blessings to certain persons b. the decree made from choice by which he determined to bless certain persons through Christ by grace alone 2. a thing or person chosen a. of persons: God's elect.
Amplified Bible: 2 Peter 1:10 Because of this, brethren, be all the more solicitous and eager to make sure (to ratify, to strengthen, to make steadfast) your calling and election; for if you do this, you will never stumble or fall.
My husband knew from the time he was a teenager that he was called to the ministry. He had several prophecies spoken over him. He ran from that calling for 18 years. Finally he answered the Lord's call and the Lord has taken very good care of us ever since.
God has everything we need laid up for the calling and purpose he has for us. If we will step out he will show himself strong on
2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect (wholly or fully) toward him.
Paul was a chosen instrument for God. God had his life planned out and told him how things would go down. Paul knew he would have troubles, but he did what God called him to do. And God brought him out of those troubles.
Acts 9:15 But the Lord said unto him (Ananias), Go thy way: for he (Saul/Paul) is a chosen vessel (instrument) unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel.
1 Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
1th 4:4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour.
If we stay in the Word everyday we will know what God likes and dislikes and what is right and what is wrong.
2 Timothy 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels (instruments) of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
2ti 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel (instrument) unto honour, sanctified, and meet (useful) for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
According to this Scripture we must cast off any works of the flesh that would keep us from being a useful instrument for God to use. If we have been born again and washed in the blood of the Lamb then it is our job to keep our vessel/instrument clean with the washing of water by the Word (Ephesians 5:26).
So let us obey the calling of God on our lives and cleanse ourselves so that we can be instruments for the Master's use.
