Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
Noah prepared an ark to the saving of his family.
We all want to see our families saved, don't we?
This is an account of a dad who worked to save his family.
The first thing I noticed is that Noah believed the warning he received from God. "Noah being warned of God of things not yet seen." This reveals to us that Noah was a dad that believed God's Word. When God told him of things that were unheard of, things that were to come, the like of which had never been seen before, when God told Noah of a coming judgment, Noah believed that the danger was real.
You know dads, I think today we need a new awareness that there is a coming judgment and that the danger is real.
I believe, in the natural, any good father that knows a terrible storm is coming will round his family up and get them in a safe shelter, if he believes the report.
I think there are a lot of good dads out there. They just aren't sure if they believe the report.
Let me tell you today dads, there is a storm looming on the horizon the like of which this world has never known.
Are we doing all that we can, all that we should to see that our family is inside the ark of safety?
Do we believe the report?
Noah believed the danger was real.
We have talked to our kids about drugs, alcohol, and aids. We told them to wear their seat belts and not to talk to strangers.
Have we told them about the coming judgment?
Have we had the father-child talk about their eternal safety?
I am sure that Noah was laughed at. I am sure that at times his children wondered if dad had gone around the bend. But Noah didn't let what others thought affect his purpose. For over 100 years he worked. He didn't give up. He didn't quit.
I'm glad that my parents didn't give up on me.
Dad's (and moms) it's time we take a stand of faith between our family and the danger. Wouldn't it be sad if we delivered ourselves from a flood only to watch our families be washed away?
Noah protected his family by his faith.
Noah protected his family by his spiritual hearing.
Noah protected his family by his obedience.
Noah protected his family by his preparation.
You know dads we are all leaving a heritage behind.
My dad went to be with the Lord when I was 17 years old. He left 8 children behind. He never left us any trust funds, any houses or lands, any bank accounts or wealth.
He gave us something of a more lasting nature. He had instilled in us the value of living a life that was built on a belief in God,
and that being honest and truthful will always pay off in the end.
He left me a heritage that when we bought our first house the bank president just found out who my dad was and who Debbie's dad was, he gave us the loan.
It wasn't because either of our dads had any wealth, but because both men were known to be men of integrity.
I learned to reverence the house of God because I saw my dad do it.
When I was working on this message I was thinking about my dad. I remember some words of wisdom he spoke to me when I was only a boy, and those words came back to me.
My cousin and I were ramping our bikes and I didn't land right. I went to my dad with a busted mouth and blood running down my chin. He pulled out an old red hankerchief, wiped my face and said, "Son, if you're going to be stupid you'll have to be tough."
Words to live by.
Back to Noah. Noah stayed in faith when everyone else was living it up. While others went along with the times and took no heed to the warning, while others, no doubt, made fun and some just reasoned it away, Noah worked. He invested his time and his energy his resources to save his family.
Your faith can protect your family in the future and the present.
My mom and dad stood in faith for me when doctors gave up, when people told them to be realistic, when medical science said, "It can't happen", when I had no strength. I was like the lady that Jesus touched in the Bible. I could in no way lift myself up, but they stood in faith and covered me in prayer. Their faith protected me.
I want to give all you dads and moms a Scripture.
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house (family).
Noah prepared an ark to the saving of his house (family). Noah protected his family by his obedience.
A lot of people want God to save their family and they aren't walking in obedience themselves.
God gave Noah certain instructions. Noah couldn't shorten them. He couldn't build a raft instead of an ark. Noah not only believed the instructions, He followed them. He was setting an example that God's Word not only needs to be heard, but it also needs to be obeyed.
Dads, if we bring our families to church, but our family doesn't see us obeying the Word, we are setting forth an example that it's OK to hear, but not do. Going to church won't save us unless we become doers of the Word.
We read of another man who built a house that stood the storm.
Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Mt 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
The rains come today. The winds come. The storms come. They come to every family, every house and beat on us. There are so many things out there that come to wreck our homes and families.
Dads, as spiritual leaders of our households, and some of you moms who are spiritual leaders of your home, let me encourage you today:
⦁ Stay in faith
⦁ Stay in obedience
⦁ Be a doer of the Word
By faith, Noah, being warned of God moved with fear.
Faith and movement work together. He prepared. He followed the instruction to the saving of his house.
I want to encourage all the dads today to take a new interest in the saving of our families, to speak to our children again about the importance of eternal safety, to try to lead by example.
There is a terrible storm coming: Coming, the Bible says in 2 Peter 3:10, as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Verse 12 says the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved.
Isaiah talks about the storm.
Isaiah 51:6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.
One more Scripture about the coming storm.
Ac 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Ac 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
The day is coming dads and moms. Let's take a new look at where our families are. Not just our children, but our household. And let's get a new zeal to work toward getting them into the ark of safety. The day may be closer than we know.
God has a father's desire to see you and your house inside the ark of safety.
Build on the Rock (JESUS) and we can have a secure home in an unsecure world.
