Let This Mind Be In You
2:1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2. Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
I want to talk about having the mind of Christ. Battles will come by each of our lives. Most of us know being a Christian don’t opt you out of the pains of this life. But we do have a promise that he will deliver us out of all our troubles.
Psalms 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.
We cannot face the storms of this life in our own strength. They will quickly wear us down. It is important that we understand what the mind of Christ is and how we obtain it.
In order to do this the first thing we need to determine is what exactly is the mind of Christ.
The second thing we need to know, is how do we become likeminded.
Christ did not walk this earth in fear, doubt, anxiety, depression, worry, and stress just to name a few and neither should we. But if we are not careful we will easily fall into the devils snares. We are not to live our life with our minds tormented this way but rather we are to live our life in joy, with our mind quieted by the peace of God.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
We are so easily held back because of fear alone. Fear will stop the move of God in our life. It will keep us from walking in the things of God and the things God has for us, if we let fear have dominion over us. Fear is a spirit and the Lord does not want us under its affliction. Fear has torment and torment is not of God.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
He wants us to walk in peace and in love, to enjoy our life and the blessings he has given us. We are not to lean on our own carnal understanding. But to trust him in all situations.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Fear is not the mind set he gave us, but you will not walk free from fear, worry or anxiety or any of the things I mentioned earlier without a relationship with Christ. To walk without these things will mean you will have to trust in the Lord. You cant have the mind of Christ if you do not know the savior, neither can you have trust in him without a relationship with him. We are supposed to live our lives in peace. The carnal man cannot walk in this peace of mind. We can, only because we have been given the mind of Christ.
1 cor 2:14-16 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.
You cant have the peace that passes understanding if you don’t keep your mind on the things of God. This peace is yours, you can have it, but it will be up to you whether you obtain it or not.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
You will have to keep your mind on Christ.
Let me show you something else that Jesus’ mind had when he walked this earth. His mind was a mind free from sin and so was his heart. The mind and the heart work together. man will follow his heart. I can get my husband to do things for me that he wouldn’t do for anyone else simply because he loves me, I have his heart. The thoughts begin in the mind, then move to the heart, and the heart will move the man.
1 Peter 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
You see, you will follow your heart, but before it was a desire of the heart it was a thought of the mind.
If you are going to battle the mind you will have to remind yourself of the promises of God and His Word.
Isaiah 46:8 Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors
Lam 3:21-26 ThisI recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 22It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. 24The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. 25The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. 26It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
It is easy to get discouraged, especially when troubles come our way. But we need to make sure we keep our mind set on the Lord and on His Word and encourage eachother.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
If your thoughts don’t line up with the Word of God cast it out, you don’t have to entertain bad thoughts.
2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
There have been times in my life when I have struggled with worry. It is something most of us do from time to time. I have found that when I cant seem to get my mind away from worry or bad thoughts I can pick up the Word of God, find a story in the bible I like and I can start reading. Before I know it, my mind is picturing the story in the bible instead of the troubling thoughts. My mind cant focus on both right and wrong thoughts at the same time. In order to control your thoughts you are going to have to submit to God and resist the devil, you have to do both then he will flee from your thoughts
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Satin tempted the Lord also. Jesus rebuked him every time using the word. He said “It is written” you can find that in Matthew chapter 4 and in Luke chapter 4. When he brings you discouragement quote him the word.
If you will work on battling the thoughts of the mind, the Lord will help. The bible says the Holy Spirit will bring all things into your remembrance. But you will have to choose what and who you are going to listen to. Whether the lies of the devil or the truth in Gods word.
Let me show you the 2 mind sets,
The mind of Christ (verses) The mind of the world, the words of the devil tells us and carnal thinking.
The Mind Of The World, The Devil and Carnal Thinking The Mind of Christ
I cant sleep he gives rest to his beloved-Psalm 127:2
This situation is impossible all things are possible Luke-18:27
I cant go on his Grace will get you through-2 corinthians 12:9
I am going to be swollowed up in debt thou shall be above only-Deuteronomy 28:13
I am in trouble no weapon formed against you will prosper-Isaiah 54:17
Remember what we read earlier in Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.
It is not easy to maintain the mind of Christ, it is something we will have to do daily.
Psalms 119:50 This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.
Psalms 119:92 Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction
Ephesians 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
2 Corinthians 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
One last thing I want to say is, that you wont know the mind of Christ if you don’t read his word.
You wont know right and wrong thinking if you don’t know what His word says.
When trouble times come, and they will come, you will need to be in fellowship with the Lord. You get this fellowship through reading the Word of God, and through Prayer. Prayer is simply a conversation between you and the Lord. A conversation takes 2 people so we must also listen as well as talk and follow his guidance, and he will keep our minds in perfect peace if you will keep your mind stayed on him.
MIND BE IN YOU
