Hebrews 12:1 ... lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
Lay aside every weight. Weight slows you down.
Example: A runner in a race can run fast when he isn't carrying anything on his back. But strap a 25 lb. bag of flour on his back and see if he can run as fast. No, he can't.
You have heard the expression, "I feel weighed down with cares."
Worry & cares are weights that we are to cast upon Jesus. The Bible says to cast all your cares upon Him because He cares for you (I Peter 5:7).
Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Php 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
This Scripture tells us not to be anxious about anything, but pray about everything. Take it to Jesus and leave it there and then the peace of God will come upon us.
Our enemy, the devil, brings thoughts to our minds which, in turn, causes us to worry and fret over things. The Bible tells us how to take care of this.
2 Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
2co 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
2co 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
First of all, we are not fighting a physical battle. It is a spiritual battle. Our enemy is the devil, not people. People may do things to us and say things about us, but the devil is the one manipulating them. Even Christians can be used of Satan to say things that hurt. Look at Peter. Jesus turned to him one day and said, "Get thee behind me, Satan." Satan was using Peter's mouth to speak things he shouldn't say.
Ephesians 6:12 says, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
We have weapons that are supernatural: The Word of God, Prayer, & Praise. They will pull down any stronghold Satan may try to establish in our lives.
The Bible tells us to: Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11)
I don't read anywhere in the Word of God where we ever take the armour off.
Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God:
Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.
Next we are to cast down, throw out, any negative thought that comes against what God's Word says. Just think of negative thoughts as cookies that bog down your computer and make it sluggish. Every now and then you have to go into the hard drive of your computer and delete the cookies so your computer will function better. We must do that with negative thoughts. Delete them so you won't be bogged down with care and worry.
The devil will make you think you are not going to have the provisions you need. Come back at him with the Word of God that says, " My God shall supply all my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19)!" Then start praising God for His Word. You can't hear the devil if you are singing praises to God. 2 Corinthians 2:11 says, ... we are not ignorant of his (Satan's) devices.
Notice in Ephesians 6:16 the shield of faith will quench (put out) all the fiery darts of the wicked. You can't have the shield of faith without the Word. Romans 10:17 says, So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
We must keep the Word of God flooding our mind and spirit. There is a Scripture for every area of our lives in the Word. Find a Scripture for your circumstance and stand on it. God said, "I will hasten My Word to perform It (Jeremiah 1:12)."
