I want to talk to you today about a problem that had me bound for 30 odd years. It is one of the greatest tools
that the enemy uses. It is called FEAR.
From the time I was in grade school I was in bondage to fear. I was afraid of everything, but most of all I was
afraid of being in front of people and having to give book reports, etc. The teacher would have to ask me
questions or I would just stand there. The words would not come out.
Another fear I had was a fear of water. I would not even get my face in the shower.
I would feel like I was suffocating.
Praise God, after I was saved the Lord helped me overcome these fears.

What is fear?
Strong's Concordance: Fear: Timidity, cowardice, dread, terror, that which strikes terror, to be afraid.
Dictionary: A painful feeling of impending danger, evil, trouble, etc. , the feeling or condition of being afraid,
anxiety, dismay, fright, panic.
Fear is also a spirit. II Timothy 1:7 says, For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love,
and of a sound mind.

All through the Bible God told his people to FEAR NOT.
Fear first entered into the world when man fell. (Genesis 3:10) Adam heard the Lord calling him and he said,
"I heard thy voice in the garden and I was afraid."

Fear is a thief. Fear will rob you of God's blessing just like it did Peter in Matthew 14:30. Peter went from
fearing the Jews because of persecution to pointing a finger at them on the day of Pectecost and saying,
"You're the ones who crucified Jesus." Holy Ghost boldness!

Fear has stopped so many of us from doing things for God. We fear (worry) because we're inadequate. We
fear (worry) what people will think and so on.

The Lord told Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:8, "Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee."
Praise God, he is with us, too, not only that, he is in us, if we are born again.

Fear has many side effects:
It has torment. (I John 4:18) There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear; because fear hath
torment.  He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Fear brings bondage. (Romans 8:15) For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear.

I knew a man who started being afraid to drive on the 4-lane higway then he got so he was afraid to drive
on 2-lane roads. He got so he could not even ride with someone else driving. Before long he would not even
leave his property. He was that way till the day he died. That's bondage!

Fear brings a defeat mentality. (Numbers 13:30-33) The ten spies saw themselves as grasshoppers, but
God said they were conquerors. Fear robbed them of the promised land. God called them conquerors, but
we are more than conquerors through him that loved us according to Romans 8:37.

Fear is contagious. Have you ever been with someone who just started screaming so you did too. You may
not know why, but you thought it must be something frightening.
(Deuteronomy 20:8) {Turn there and read.}
The fearful men were to go home because their fear would rub off on their fellow soldiers.

If we dwell in fear it will come to pass. (Job 3:25) For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me,
and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. Don't let fear be the abundant thing in your heart.
Matthew 12:34 says, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Some people will try to make you fear, just like Sennacherib King of Assyria in II Kings chapters 18 & 19 &
II Chronicles chapter 32. He tried to get God's people to doubt what God has said and threatened them.
I like what Hezekiah told the people in II Chronicles 32:7-8, 7 Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the King of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with
him:  8 with him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God to help us, and to fight our battles.
Sennacherib threatened them and said their God was just like all the other gods he had overthrown.
He was wrong. He died.

Also when Nehemiah was trying to rebuild Jerusalem, Tobiah, Sanballat, and the prophetess Noadiah tried
to put him in fear. ((Nehemiah 6:14)
Nehemiah had already told the people in chapter 4, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is
great and terrible and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

It is no different today. We have bad reports bombarding us from every side. The TV is probably one of the
worst fear pushers today. Every 5 minutes we hear things like, "By the time you are a certain age you should
be bald, have acid reflux, weak bladder, bowel problems, cancer, menopause, hemmoroids, weak bones,
bad eyes", the list goes on.

But remember Jesus bore every sickness and every disease with the stripes on his back so we don't have to.
If we have a problem in our body, we need to speak to it in the name of Jesus, "Body, God's Word says you
are healed by Jesus stripes, so you will come in line with the Word. Every symptom in my body get out in
Jesus name." Then we need to praise God that His Word is True.

Another big fear the devil uses is the phrase, THAT RUNS IN MY FAMILY. Let me tell you, if you are born
again you have a new family. There is no sickness or disease in our new family.

Fear is under the curse, just like sickness & disease. (Deuteronomy 28:65-67)
The Bible says that Jesus redeemed us from the curse. (Galatians 3:13-14)

The only fear we are to have is to fear the Lord. Fear here does not mean terror, it means reverence.
Psalm 34:9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
How do we stop fear from before it stops us?
1. The first thing we have to do is to BE BORN AGAIN: Repent, be baptized, and receive the Holy Ghost. Death, burial, resurrection.
1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the
world, even our faith.
2. Then we need to READ & STUDY GOD'S WORD. God's Word will make your faith grow and will crowd
out fear.
3. GET OUR MIND RIGHT. According to,
2 Corinthians 10:5, Cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge
of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

Fear always starts in the mind. We have dominion over our minds to cast down these fearful thoughts.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that
ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

We renew our minds by reading God's Word, prayer, fasting, and hearing anointing preaching, etc.
Put on the whole armour of God.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers
of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and
having done all, to stand.
6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance
and supplication for all saints.
Make sure you are walking in love.
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not
If we are born again, Romans 5:5 says that the love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts by the
Holy Ghost.
We have the love of God, but it is our choice to walk in it or not.
The Bible says in 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect (complete - mature) love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
Who is perfect love? Jesus. The closer you get to Jesus, the less fear you will have.

Another thing to do is to seek the Lord.
Jehoshaphat had a great multitude coming against him, so he set himself to seek the Lord. He didn't even
have to fight. He sent out singers & praisers & the Lord set the ambushments. (II Chronicles chapter 20)
Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he
is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Diligently: Investigate - Crave - Persistent.

If we investigate we really search something out. We are persistent in it. We need to be like that about God.
We should crave Him. Just like David in Psalm 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth
my soul after thee, O God. 42:2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God.

Here are some scriptures you can read.
Psalm 91:5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Psalm 91:6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
Psalm 91:7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.  Read the whole Psalm.
Isaiah 54:14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not
fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.
Isaiah 54:15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against
thee shall fall for thy sake.  Read the whole chapter.
Isaiah 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength
and my song; he also is become my salvation.

Isaiah 35:4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with
vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you.

He will save you from all your fears, and whatever else you need delivered from.
Get in His Word. Build your faith. Faith will crowd out fear.
Just like we read in I John faith is the victory that overcomes the world.

It is one of Satan's greatest weapons.

If he brings you a package marked FEAR, don't sign for it.
