DO WE REALLY TRUST GOD?

Trust implies instinctive unquestioning belief in and reliance upon.

January 22, 2004 Dave had a dream. The basics of the dream was: "Don't trust man." "Trust God, even for the smallest things."

The Bible has a lot to say about trusting God. I found out that the words; faith, believe, hope, confidence, assurance, & confide
mean to trust.

How do we trust God?
You have to get to know someone before you can trust them.
We get to know God through his Word.

Why Should We Trust God?

He Loved Us Enough To Send His Son To Die For Us: John 3:16
He's Aware - He Already Knows Everything About You: Matthew 6:8
He's Concerned: 1 Peter 5:7 Whatever concerns you concerns Him.
He's Faithful: You can always rely on Him. I Corinthians 1:9
He's Capable Of Meeting Every Need: Ephesians 3:20 & Philippians 4:19
He Has All Power: Matthew 28:18
He Is Our Healer: Isaiah 53:5 & Matthew 8:17
God Is Our Strength: Isaiah 26:3 & Psalm 18:2 & Psalm 28:1
He Is Our Protection: Isaiah 26:3 & Proverbs 3:25
God Is Our Refuge: Psalm 62:8 & Proverbs 14:26
He Answers Prayer: I John 3:21 & I John 5:14

Trusting him completely is acting upon the Word of God and assuming it to be true regardless of what feelings or sight is saying. Lean not on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).

Many times we don't realize the promises of God because we are hindered by our 5 senses.
2 Corinthians 5:7 says we walk by faith (trust) not by sight.
Trusting God requires action (obedience) regardless of our situation, regardless of what we see.

Obedience proves trust.
The full resources of God are at our disposal when we place our trust in Him.

The scripture says if we believe (trust) on Jesus we shall not be ashamed:
Romans 5:5 - Romans 9:33 - Romans 10:11 - Isaiah 45:17 - Isaiah 49:23 - Isaiah 50:7 - Isaiah 54:4 - Psalms 119:6 - Psalms 119:46 - Joel 2:26-27 - 2 Timothy 1:8 - 2 Timothy 1:12 - 2 Timothy 2:15 - 1 Peter 4:16 - 1 John 2:28
or confounded: Psalms 22:4-5 - Isaiah 45:17 - Isaiah 50:7 - Isaiah 54:4 - 1 Peter 2:6

Like they say, I have some bad news and some Good News.

1st THE BAD NEWS

NOT TRUSTING IN GOD BRINGS A CURSE
Read Deuteronomy 28:15-68 for the list of curses.

Destruction:
Psalm 55:23 But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.

Isaiah 30:12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon: 13 Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly at an instant.

Shame & Confusion:

Isaiah 30:1 Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: 2 That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! 3 Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

Jeremiah 13:25 This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood. 26 Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.

Ashamed:
Isaiah 42:17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.

Evil, Mischief, & Desolation:
Isaiah 47:10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me. 11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.

Inhabit Dry Places:
Jeremiah 17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.

Punishment:
Jeremiah 29:31 Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie: 32 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.

Fear & Wandering:
Jeremiah 49:4 Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me? 5 Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts, from all those that be about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth; and none shall gather up him that wandereth.

No Rest:
Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

DO  WE  REALLY  TRUST  GOD?

The Bible says in
Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
