Luke chapter 2.
I have preached several messages from this text. We have preached about the "Bethlehem (Overcrowded) Heart" and "No Room For Jesus"; How people allowed their hearts to become as overcrowded with the cares of this world that they missed the song of the angels. And we know that many people today have no room for Jesus.
But today I want to take a few minutes and talk about that song: The original Christmas message. It is the cure for the Bethlehem heart.
The angel brought a message of joy and peace. Satan has spent over 2,000 years trying to hide or steal that message.
The message delivered by angelic messengers is what heaven proclaimed on the day of our Savior's birth. There could be no better Christmas message.
Let's read Luke 2:10-14.
Luke 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. Lu 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Lu 2:12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
Lu 2:13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Lu 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
The first thing the angel said was "Fear Not". Ever since Adam had fallen in the Garden fear had gripped mankind. Adam's first words to God after his fall was "I was afraid".
Do you know that faith in the Savior drives out fear? If we stay in faith fear has to yield to it just like the joy of the Lord conquers weakness.
The message of the angel is the fearful don't have to be fearful anymore. This Babe born in Bethlehem will even conquer death, hell, and the grave.
"Fear not", the angel said, "I bring Good News". The angel was not a messenger of despair but of hope and joy. The fearful don't have to be fearful anymore. The hopeless don't have to be hopeless anymore.
Jesus was born as a babe: The Promise of a new beginning.
If you don't know or understand the Promise of God for a new beginning Satan will come to you and fill your heart full of memories of the past: Maybe even of former Christmases. He will bring back old hurts, discouragements, and past failures. He will point out to you all the hopeless circumstances he can, and December 25th can be one of the longest day of your life.
But If you can catch hold and believe in the song of the angel you can celebrate 365 days a year.
The angel said, "UNTO YOU" (Tell someone, "He was talking about me.") is born this day in the city of David a Savior which is Christ the Lord.
Isaiah 9:6 calls Him Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Jesus said in John 10:10, I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
I am trying to say that whatever you are facing no matter how hopeless you may feel that over 2,000 years ago the answer to your problem was manifested in the flesh and laid in a manger and heaven rejoiced to see that day.
The Christmas message is this: The breach between God and man is repaired. Not only is God not mad at you, but He loved you so much that He gave His Son; His only begotten Son to die for you and to save you. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Jesus came not to condemn the world but that the world (the angel said "all people") might be saved. Unto you a Savior is born.
Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.
Good tidings: Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows (Isaiah 53:4) .
We have been given the most Precious Gift of all. Because the Gift of God will become in you a gift to give and to share.
If you will receive God's Gift today you will never spend another Christmas or any other day alone. You will never again be without a gift to give to others.
If you have become burdened down by the cares of the season, the rush, the hassle, worrying about what you can or cannot give or do roll all the care of it over on Jesus.
Join the angelic host and say, "Glory to God in the highest! Our Savior has come!"
The foot is firmly on the head of the serpent. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and destroy the yoke from off our necks.
The song of the angel is the song of freedom.
