And behold I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
4 Great Promises Of God:
1. COMPANIONSHIP: I am with thee.
2. GUARDIANSHIP: I will keep thee.
3. LEADERSHIP: I will bring thee.
4. SECURITY: I will not leave you.
Let's talk about# 1. Companionship: I am with thee.
Friend, I can tell you that since the day that I accepted Jesus as my Savior and Lord I have never
went anywhere alone. In good times and the bad times He has always been there for me.
One of my favorite scriptures is Micah 7:8. Rejoice not against me, O my enemy: when I fall I shall
arise, when I sit in darkness the Lord shall be a light unto me.
This is a powerful promise that no matter what the circumstances we face in life we do not have to
face them in our own limited strength, knowledge, or ability.
We have a companion, a friend, that has unlimited power, wisdom, and ability and he has said,
"I'll be with you."
To have a friend that sticks closer than a brother is a great blessing, but for that friend to be the Lord
of Glory, well, how could you describe that blessing.
John 15:15. Jesus said, "I have called you friend."
Proverbs 17:17. A friend loveth at all times.
In our opening text, God was speaking to Jacob here, but if we look back in chapter 26, we can see Jacob's father in a strange land, sort of surrounded by Philistines: surrounded by people who didn't
like him, people who wanted to fill up all his wells, people who plainly asked him to leave.
They said, "Go from us."
Isaac didn't fit in.
You know, about the way a real Christian doesn't fit into a group of unsaved people at work or
The Lord had told Isaac, "I will be with you. I will bless you." Finally, even his enemy had to say,
"We saw certainly that the Lord was with you, Isaac."
God was Isaac's constant companion, and He wants to be yours.
# 2. The next promise is Guardianship: I will keep thee.
Did you realize that in John 17:15, Jesus prayed, I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the
world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
Verse 20 says, neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word.
Isaiah 41:10 says I am with thee, I will strengthen thee, I will help thee, I will uphold thee with the right hand of My righteousness.
Friendship with God brings the protection of God.
It seems many people don't really want to be friends with God.
They don't want to hang around with Him.
They want to hang around with the world, talk to the world, fill their lives with worldly things and ideas
until trouble comes, then they want God's protection.
If you reject His friendship, don't expect His protection.
The keeping power of God.
God didn't just go into the den of lions with Daniel, He kept him safe there.
From the pit to the palace he kept Joseph. He not only kept his life, but kept his dream and brought
it to pass.
God kept David from shepherd boy to king. He kept him when he walked upright and kept him when
he stumbled, because David never rejected God's companionship.
But, God's companionship and protection can be rejected.
Jesus said of Jerusalem one day, "How often would I have gathered thy children even as a hen
gathereth her chicks under her wings and ye would not."
# 3. Leadership: I will Bring Thee.
Jesus said in John 14:26, The Holy Ghost whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever thing I have said unto you.
In John 16:13 He will guide you into all Truth.
God leads by His Word and His Spirit. The Spirit and the Word agree. They are like a map and a compass. The Spirit will never lead in a different direction than the Word.
Any dreams, visions, prophecy, impulses, or leadings that are not in line with God's Word are not in
line with God, and not of the Spirit of the Lord.
Standing on God's Word will prevent us from being mislead or drawn away from our course by
God's principal way of guiding us is through His Word. He also leads by the direct leading of the Spirit.
In Acts 8:29, the Spirit said unto Philip, "Go near and join thyself to the chariot."
In Acts 16:6-7, Paul and his companions were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach in Asia.
John 10:4 says when He putteth forth His own sheep, He goeth before them and the sheep follow him
for they know His voice.
Verse 14. Jesus said, I am the Good Shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known of Mine.
Verse 27. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me.
God offers us guidance and leadership, if we will surrender to His way and His will.
# 4. Security: I will not leave you.
Just like Jacob, we have a promise from God.
Hebrews 13:5. For He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Jesus said in Matthew 28:20, "I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Sometimes friends forsake you. Sometimes family may turn away, but Jesus is the friend that sticks
closer than a brother.
You may walk away from him, but He will not walk away from you.
Let me ask 3 questions and I'll close.
Are you friends with Jesus?
Have you really been a friend?
Would you like to have a friend like Jesus?
He wants to be not only your Lord, but your friend.
He is Lord, whether you accept Him or not, and one day the Bible says, every knee will bow and every tongue will acknowledge His Lordship.
Wouldn't it be great on that day to be able to proclaim, "It is Jesus, my Lord, and my friend" ?
